MCP / ChatGPT
Ask ChatGPT to pull your competitor data directly via a custom connector.
This uses ChatGPT's Developer Mode, which requires a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Education plan and is still labeled beta by OpenAI — menu names and steps may shift as it evolves.
Enable Developer Mode
Settings → Connectors → Advanced settings → toggle Developer mode on, and accept the warning about custom connectors running third-party code.
Create the connector
In Connectors, click Create and fill in:
Name: Ranks Hawk
MCP Server URL:
https://www.rankshawk.com/api/mcpSet Authentication to OAuth, then save.
Authenticate
A consent popup opens. Sign in with your Ranks Hawk account and approve.
Use it
In a chat, enable the Ranks Hawk connector from the tools menu, then ask — e.g. "What content gaps do I have against my competitors?"
find_content_gap
Keywords a competitor ranks for that you don't — topics worth writing about.
find_backlink_opportunity
Dead competitor pages worth reclaiming, or sites linking to them but not to you.
find_ai_mention
Questions where AI assistants cite a competitor instead of you.
list_competitors
Your tracked competitor domains.
get_account_summary
Your domain, plan, and last analysis run time.
I don’t see a Developer Mode toggle
It requires a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Education plan, and OpenAI is still rolling it out — availability and exact menu wording can vary by account.
Why the extra security warning?
ChatGPT flags custom connectors because they run third-party code on your behalf. The Ranks Hawk connector is read-only and scoped to your own account.
The connector isn’t showing up in chat
Enable it from the tools/plugins menu (usually the paperclip or "+" icon) in the conversation before asking your question — adding a connector doesn’t turn it on by default.
